This involves the identification, measurement and recording of pavement and surfacing visual defects along a section of road, then categorising the severity and extent of the defects. This is useful within a project level assessment, to provide insight into the modes of deterioration of the pavement. A network level assessment can be utilised within a pavement management system for verification of deterioration rates. This data may form the basis for programming future maintenance and rehabilitation works.
